need help with my sisters 98 accord...

its throwing code 67 = Catalyst system Efficiency Below Threshold
malfunctioning or defective catalyst system

I just reset the ecu, and waiting for it to show again. When it does pop up should I tell her to replace her catalytic converter or what??

how much mileage is on the car. that might be the reason why. i went to honda today because my ecu is throwing the same code. they said i have a bad cat. they said it could be due to the mileage on the car.

It might still be under federal warranty. Check with someone else (like searching on DMV or CARB's website). Is her car a V6 or 4banger?

Car parts that relate to emmisions control (the stuff that a "smog check" tests for) are usually covered under a separate federal warranty in excess of Honda's stated manufacturer's "bumper-to-bumper" warranty. The state and federal governement want to keep cars running with low emmisions + low impact on the environment during the car's useful life. Nobody needs smoggy air...

Your dealer should know about it. I *believe* convertors & things related are covered to 70k miles or thereabouts. Check on it...there might be a brochure that came w/ her car manuals when she bought it - check the glovebox.

Check the warranty manual that came with the car or call Honda customer service for the emission warranty info.

I've got a '98 4-cyl. I bet the V-6 warranty is the same. This is all printed in the warranty booklet.

36k-mi/3-yr New Car Limited Warranty

36k-mi/3-yr federal vehicle emmision control warranty
California requires a longer warranty for this?? (I'm not sure?)

80k-mi/8-yr for:
catalytic converter
warmup catalytic converter
engine control module
powertrain control module

seatbelts & supplementary restraints covered for the "vehicle life"

5-yr rust perforation
