Malfunction indicator lamp on
My 2001 accord's malfunction indicator lamp was on while I was driving. I checked the fuel fill cap, no loose or missing problem. Asked Honda dealer, they charge $125 only for inspection, not including repairing. Asked PepBoys, they charge $95 for inspection. My question is is it worthy to spend money to check it while I didn't feel anything wrong except the light? Or anything I can check by myself?
I see from manual, it says "Even though you may feel no difference in your car's performance, it can reduce your fuel economy and cause your car to put out excessive emissions. Continued operation may cause serious damage. If you keep driving with the malfunction indicator lamp on, you can damage your car's emissions controls and engine".

Re: Malfunction indicator lamp on (stonerock)
You need to get the code pulled to know if what the problem is. AutoZone will check the code for free.
You can pull the code yourself if you want, using the method described in this thread, but by using this method you get results that are less specific than pulling the codes with a scanner.
