Icon2 1994 Accord LX - Airbag Question - Please Help

I purchased this Accord from a friend who got in a fender bender on the left driver side. It didnt damage the frame, just made a large dent in the driver side fender.

The question is, the airbags did not deploy in the fender bender, the SRS light is NOT on and there is no airbag warning lit on the dash. Ive called the local Honda dealer and the service guy told me "If it didn't go off in the accident it wont go off unless those lights are on". Given my experience with Service Dept, I am a little apprehensive in trusting his word.

What is the likelyhood of the Airbags randomly going off while im driving?

A fender can bend with very little force. Airbags only deploy in certain circumstances when all the equations add up correctly. There should be no lights on while you're driving normally. They'll all come on at the start of the car then go off after a second or two.

I'd turn the key on and see if you get that SRS light to come on for two sec then goes off which is a self system check I believe.

Airbags are designed to go off when a certain deceleration threshhold is reached in a front on collision. Side impacts are less likely to set off the airbags because they produce less deceleration on in the forward direction.

And fenders are made of 1/8" sheet metal. Pretty easy to bend.

Sweet,

I really appreciate the feedback. I've gotten no where asking dealerships.

But Yes, the light turns off after 2 seconds and never comes on. So I shouldnt worry about it randomly going off while driving then.

Honda's are new to me, before this I had a GTI and did my HW on it. Glad theres a forum with people who are willing to help.

- Thx
