Kind of poor gas mileage
 

Alright well i got a 95 accord LX 4 cyl. I was getting somewhere around 210-220 on a full tank. Recently i have changed the spark plugs, the spark plug wires, and the fuel filter. Right now i have 180 miles and a quarter tank of gas left. So im guessing i could end up with like 250 maybe.

I have to see if i need to change my pcv valve, distrubutor cap and rotor. Could any of those affect the gas mileage? Im not even to sure about the size of the tank itself, is it 14?

I am a bit lead footed to, but not like i redline from every light or nothing.


Car is stock to. It did have a new cat installed it in though at 65k miles. I bought it with 70k.

Man, I get about 315-350 out of a tank on my '94 Accord EX.

wow I get at LEAST 300 per tank on my 97 Accord SE and I consider myself a spirited driver https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...es/emsmile.gif . Have you tried restarting your ECU?

Gas tank is 17.1 gallons. I get 350 or so on average with my 95 EX sedan. Other things to check would be tire pressure, alignment, balance. None of the things mentioned should have such a huge impact on your mileage. You're getting about 100miles less than most of us.
Are you sure you are filling the tank full? Take the car down to almost empty and fill the tank. Make certain you are getting what would be the full 17.1 gallon fillup. If the pump says it's less your gauge might be off or not working properly.

wow......

i get about 360 miles out of my 90 lx with 190k on the clock.......and i THOUROUGHLY flog it for 70 miles each day, and that's just on the way to and from work. it sounds like you got problems bro....are you blowing black smoke out the tail pipe? have you done any mods to it?? lets see if we can get to the bottom of this....

air filter
tune up basics( plugs wires cap rotor)
proper tire inflation- and if you want mileage.....slight overinflation will help
front end alignment
possibly bad o2 sensor or maf sensor causing the ecu to overcompensate fuel delivery
also, i know it sounds stupid, but check your brake calipers to see if they are dragging, as both of mine did this after i replaced pads and did not re-lubricate the sliders

Man! This blows me away, I get 475 miles per tank and I drive is heavy rush hour traffic and hour each way everyday!

gimme the stats on your ride, as i can see absolutely no way you get that kind of mileage, unless youre running high test.

It is a 98 4cyl VTECH 5 speed. I have a 17 gallon tank but I never have put in more than 15 gallons when I fill up.

I agree with Klutch, I have a 94 4 cyl with a 17 gal tank and I'm getting around 600 miles on a full tank. I drive 70 miles to work each day, mostly highway.

driving 1/2 mile to school every day = 250ish/tank
driving 15 miles to work everyday in the summer on teh highway = 325ish/tank

driving for uber short periods alot might reserve gas (ie, fill up every month and a half)...but driving when the engine is cold and constantly starting/stopiing/turning off will kill gas milege

I have a 93 honda accord lx and i only get around 230 per tank. I have catback exhasut and a AEM cold air intake. is there anything i can do to get more miles out of my tank. I relpalced the spark plugs, dist. cap, spark plug wires. and no improvement.

Well today i filled up the tank when it was a hair away from the e line. I didn't know that there was still an extra 3 gallons when its that close to empty. Filled up 14 gallons, and had 256 miles on the tripometer. Thats an avg of 18mpg. So with those last 3 gallons i would end up getting 310 for the tank.

Though before i changed the fuel filter i would have probably ended up with 260 maybe

on my bone stock 95 lx auto i can get 400 a tank if i really try...with "spirited" city driving and some highway i get around 350 - 375 per tank https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

try cleaning out your egr valve honda can do it for $170 but its easy with the right punch tool and pipe cleaners,,,,, if you need info on how to do it i know a good DIY page or if you are close to me i can do it... that is a big problem with the cb7's

475 miles for one tank?? are you going downhill the entire 475 miles or something? i only broke the 400 mile mark one time, and that was with 6 hours of non-stop 70mph highway driving.

i can't possibly see how you're getting that kind of mileage with rush hour traffic.

EDIT: to fill in the missing info (as pointed out below): almost always about 15.5 gallons used.

OK just to check with you all, I've noticed that nobody has actually said how many miles they have driven and how many gallons it took to fill it up. Your all assuming that the gauge is accurate. For example sure maybe you did only get 290 miles out of a "tank" but when you fill up if it only takes 10 gallons you got 29 MPG. Which is not bad at all. I've got a 93 5-speed typically gets 400 miles to a tank and the light is on but still ends up getting 28 mpg becuase it only takes 14.3 gallons to fill it. So even though it says it's out of gas, it's really not.

Just really check your gas mileage, fill up, drive till you want to fill up again, fill it up, then just divide the miles into the gallons and you'll get your MPG. Don't just go by the gauge. just my .02.

Man I had no idea people were getting this bad of mileage. My 475 miles to a tank usually leaves me with 14-15 gallons to fill up on. That comes out to about 35MPG.

Now I drive in 2 hours of rush hour a day (an hour each way) in deadlocked traffic. If the road were clear it would only take me 20 minutes each way.

My car is a 98 4cyl 5 speed and is completely stock with 87K on the odometer.

And sorry, it is in fact VTEC and not VTECH. That is the first time I've ever written it.

my 94 lx with slight mods i get up to 230-250 till the light comes on... pretty bad if you ask me, i think most of it started after i got the exhaust done (heavy footed).

oh yea, some of us h-t'ers has rims/bad alignments and such so that def. adds to the dropped mileage...

I'm averaging 35 mpg with my 94 EX, a little more on the highway. I have a manual too which would be a little better but I thought most accords would get comparable mileage.

300-350 per tank for me..that's without the turbo that is..

mostly local traffic with 30%freeway/hwy driving

I just put in some NGK Iridiums and NGK spark plug wires and my mileage seems to have worsened. What else can I do? Would an alignment make a huge difference???
