Hello All-

I have a question about how I should go about troubleshooting an intermittent check engine light. It comes on each day a couple minutes after the first start (usually the exact same place on the road leaving my house). It goes off the next time I turn off the car and at first would stay off for the rest of the day. Now it seems to come on sometimes later on in the day after starts/stops. Anyway, the car does not have the usual diagnostic port. It would appear that using the two prong port with a paper clip will not work because the light does not stay on after I shut off the car. Any ideas? Thanks!

The code will be stored in the ECU until you disconnect the battery or pull the "back up" fuse to the ECU. So jump ther service connector and turn the key to "on"/pos II and get the code(s) and let us know what they are.

The next time the check engine light comes on, without turning the car off, safely pull over and pull the code(s) with the car still running.

If the ECU memory fuse is blown the code(s) will clear when turning the key to I(OFF). Leave the engine running to activate the CEL
