How-To: Replace Internal Seal of Distributor (Internal Oil Leak)

Re: How-To: Replace Internal Seal of Distributor (Internal Oil Leak)
I have a 99 Honda Accord 3.0 v6 Ex, there was a small amount of oil in the cap. Ive looked up the seal but all ive found was the O ring here:http://www.partstrain.com/store/?N=0...ref=partfinder
is this the only O ring I need for this distributor or is there another part/seal? i will take a picture of the distributor/cap if needed
would this leak cause a random misfire or could it burn out a dis. rotor because i noticed when replacing cap and rotor the rotor had burn marks on it, could this mean a bad distributor?

Re: How-To: Replace Internal Seal of Distributor (Internal Oil Leak)
Hello!
I had to register/log in to say thank you!
Used this guide to replace the internal seal on my fiancee's 96 Integra, well done!
I also want to let your folks know where I got the seal - for $5.50.
Great service, I got a generic oring kit too to repair the self-leveling air ride in my Cadillac. Got free shipping when I added that.

Thanks again!

Re: How-To: Replace Internal Seal of Distributor (Internal Oil Leak)
I know that this is an old thread, but I was glad that I found it last week. A few weeks back, my car was running fine, but the following morning after an attempt to take care of some business, the car stopped on me. Sometimes it would turn over, but would barely move. I took the car to the shop and it turned out to be the coil and uniter. I was surprised because I had changed the coil. I just shrugged it off because was working after this.
In the midst of the mechanic's repair job, he pointed out the internal seal was bad, which explain why I was seeing oil on top of my starter coming from the distributor. A week later my car is acting funky again. This is what lead me to the search on this and wondered if this issue was both the problem to my car not running before I had the repair and others that kept on having their car cut off after they had repairs. Somewhere I read that this oil leak can prevent the spark from reaching due to the oil saturation. Long story short, I decided to change the entire unit, no more leaks and I'm wager that this what is Honda common issue is behind a lot owners that I've been reading on here that couldn't out why their car was cutting off after they had some repairs done.
Anyways, I as going to do a seal replacement but read several times that the seal would be pushed out after the job was done.

Re: How-To: Replace Internal Seal of Distributor (Lapog)
WARNING! Be sure to reinstall the part that interfaces with the cam in the same postion it came off the distributor shaft. If you do not, you will have the distributor 180 degrees out. The tangs are offset, not centered, which is how you can only put it in one way to the cam. However, you can rotate it 180 when you put the pin back on the shaft. Your engine will not run if you do this. I found out today. Thanks again for the pics and info.

I called the dealer and they said that they don't sell that part seperately. It must be purchased as a whole of the the distributor body.

Re: How-To: Replace Internal Seal of Distributor (Internal Oil Leak)
New user here. I just did this a couple of days ago to my 1990 Accord Ex. It was the O Ring on the dizzy housing in my case but I went ahead and had ordered the internal seal as well. I tried to get it replaced but the screws holding the components were tight as hell and I was afraid of stripping them. I ended up just changing the external O ring and the leak has stopped. The old O ring was hard as a rock and flat as hell. Soon as I took the bolts off, the dizzy practically fell out on its own. Thanks to the OP for the info. Now I gotta start working on fixing the suspension on this thing. Also changed dizzy cap, rotor, and plugs/wires at the same time. Looking forward to looking here for more help as I get this thing running in great condition again. It has 258K miles on it btw and is fun as hell to drive. My first honda. Always wanted one of these. Got it for $500. LOL, sorry, now I'm rambling on and on.......

I know it's old post and I am stuck with the same problem for my 2000 accord. Can you describe how they did it with more detail?..I used hammer, vise.....channel lock....nothing works for me to get the pin out.

this link states "FITS THE F22B2 not the F22B1"
In this thread someone stated that they share the same seal, can anybody confirm?

Re: How-To: Replace Internal Seal of Distributor (Internal Oil Leak)
What up community, I am so glad I found this posting, my distributor is leaking and I thought that the only seal I would need would be the o-ring, but not the inner seal. I see that many were successful in finding that inner seal, but have not seen a part number, location (other than the machine shop suggestion), or web link to this part. If any of you have this info, could you please share it with the rest of us. My vehicle is a 94 Accord EX if that helps any. Thanks again to the author of this diy and to all those who contribute.

No and nether does Honda. It is a NOK HTC seal part No. BH3888E. Call your local parts stores or machine/bearing supply shops. There is an idiot on ebay that just jacked his prices up $30/seal. $50 is a rip off when you may be able to get these from some machine/bearing supply shops.

Re: How-To: Replace Internal Seal of Distributor (Internal Oil Leak)
Thanks Ghost, just wanted to be sure that this was the correct part number for my Accord which is a F22B1 (I also clicked on one of the sites mentioned and it stated that the inner seal was not for the b1). Now, to track down this seal so I can get started on this fix cause I'm filling my engine with oil way too often to keep it full. Also, thanks to everyone else who contributed with other info.

Re: How-To: Replace Internal Seal of Distributor (Internal Oil Leak)
This applies to the 4 cylinder accords, not the 6 cylinder.
http://www.statracing.com/replacemen...ibutorseal.asp
http://www.prostreetonline.com/oem/w...stributor+Seal
For some reason, prostreet doesn't show the seal under the EX model, but it shows it under the LX model. The first link shows them being the same part number so it should work.
