Thanks for the link and advice. I think I'll pass on this one and have the mechanic do it. BTW, at what mileage should it be replaced? Have about 84,000 on it right now.

It is not in the service schedule anymore; But by 90k it should have some junk in it. The official change time, is when you lose fuel pressure from blockage.

Well almost all gas pumps have filter systems nowadays, So there is a lot less chance of getting junk in the gas tank.

around 100k, but your 6th gen doesn't have a real filter.

filter: a device(fuel filter) that remove something(junk from the pump gas) from whatever pass thru it
pretty much the same idea for oil filter, air filter, a/c filter, light filter, atf filter, etc
change it if you haven't already, the legend/civic/teg filter is right by the firewall, which took less than 10 seond to remove
the accord 5th gen filter is between the steeringrack/crossmember and the loop of brake hoses, a royal paining **** to work on. the same go for DSM eslipse, it's mounted by the firewall under abunch of crap. Gas just leaks to your arm pit when you work on it

Re: How do you replace the fuel filter on a 1995 Honda Accord EX 4dr 2.2 VTECH? (iam7head)
The reason why I want to change the filter is to improve the gas mileage. I'm getting around 17mpg around town, and should be getting around 23 according to my car's stats.
I've already done the following:
replaced and gapped the spark plugs
poured fuel system cleaner into the gas tank
replaced the air filter
replaced the spark plug wires
replaced two tires (other two are almost new) and gave them all 36psi
I still plan on replacing the distributor cap and rotor, and of course the fuel filter.
Is there anything else I can do to improve the gas mileage?

Maybe try cleaning your EGR ports.
Check the FAQ for a How-To on cleaning the EGR ports, it's located in the Engine section.

yep, no problem.
Remember to look in there and search when your looking for something, chances are you'll find it between the two. If you find a good how-to or a good thread that you feel should belong in there, send a PM to a mod (myself or -RedneckDave-) and we can read it and add it if needed.

what can one expect to pay a mechanic to replace a fuel filter?
I still get decent gas mileage and am on my original at 216K .... thinking I'm overdue, but this sounds like a pain in the *** that i'll gladly pay someone to do

It's not as hard as it seems with the proper tools. Crowfeet make the job much easier.

overrated
i was doing it with 99cents vise grip in one hand and wrench in the other, make sure you tape the tools and use a rubber band to wrap around your hand, you will drop it couple of time on the removal
