Icon6 Honda Accord Vtech with ABS and parking brake light on

Hi,

Since one week, I have these 2 lights "on" (not all time, but when T° is more than 25 °C yes ...). The ABS one and the Hand Brake one.

I went to the Honda Garage in Strasbourg France, but they don't have anymore the "computer" to connect to this "old" Honda (I love).
They changes the brake liquid some months ago, tries to find the problem "by hand" but failed.

Manual says more or less: it's a problem with automatic braking distribution. But I don't feel any problem by using brakes.

Some hints ?
Thanks
Pascal

What year is this? If it is an OBDI car there should be a service connector used to get the codes (ABS, ECU, TCU). Check the brake fluid level.

Hi,
It's year 2000, model in paper is ACCORD 2.0i ES BVA Innova

About break fluid level, I checked and the people in the garage also checked and it's ok.

Thanks,
Pascal

For information: I am still looking for a garage which may "connect to the computer on my Honda".

The one in Strasbourg/France doesn't have the good computer anymore.

Kind of sounds like the switch in the cap, temp dependent......there is a "slider" on the cap of the brake master....I forget the wire diagrams for the proper tests but check the voltage/resistance of the wires when it is off vs when the light is on.

Thanks, but
- I am not used to "check the voltage/resistance"
- I don't know where is the "cap of the brake master"
But I'll try to find them !

The abs light is quite common (unfortuneatly) and is usually related to the wheel sensors which is what the manual is stating. It does not effect your brakes at all, only the abs function which is weak anyways. The parking brake light is another story. The cable could be a bit tight or the switch might be stuck. It's just a small pull switch connected to the lever under the housing.

You probably have a problem with ABS system.Could be few things but the only thing that it will do is disable the ABS function. You still can brake but ABS won't engage .As for the other light, it's been triggered on by ABS module automatically because it is brake system. In some cases the ABS module triggers that light to remind you so you should go and check the system.

Hi,

I went to Honda garage in Appenweier, Germany.
They still had the "computer" to connect to the Accord.

Result:
  • they looked at it for more than one hour (2 persons) ... thanks they didn't ask me a €€
  • they were able to connect to the "main" computer
  • but not at all to the ABS block ... no more responding

So ... they proposed
  1. "work" on the "find bug" by hand ... it will last 6-8 hours work and cost 800€. And not sure they will find the problem
  2. Change the "ABS block" which cost about 1750€ they said
  3. (ABS block is according to them, the "pomp" + the ABS computer ...)
  4. buy another car ...
  5. Live/drive without ABS ...

Humpf ...

Any hint ?

Yes, drive without the ABS. You will never know the difference. Your brakes will feel the same as always, you just will not have the ABS function which doesn't amount to much at any rate. If the light bothers you remove the bulb or put a piece of electrical tape over it. Mine is the same. The light comes on at start up, then goes out, but a after driving a little comes back on again. In my case it's wheel sensors (usually is). It's been this way since I got the car. I've driven it a year and the only downside is the light is irritating at night. Some day, when I get the motivation to remove the cluster, I'll take the bulb out. The prices they have quoted you in Euro's are rediculous.
