Honda Accord Ex 2000

Re: Honda Accord Ex 2000
Yes, there is a gasket between the cap and the ignition coil; however, this is not the cause of your oil leak. There should be no oil within the distributor. Disconnect battery, remove distributor, open distributor and inspect. If oil is found within, clean distributor, replace the o-ring marked # 5 in the picture below. Part # for the o-ring is 30110-PC6-005. Replacing this O-ring stopped my distributor leak. Lastly, the distributor must go back on exactly in the same position it was removed. If not, car will not start. Watch a few youtube videos on how to mark the cylinder head and distributor with small paint marks to ensure it is installed exactly in the same position it came off. Hope this helps.

Yes. This o ring seals sits between the cylinder head assembly and the distributor. Local auto part stores (advanced auto, auto zone, o'reilly's ) sell an aftermarket replacement for this o ring made by Fel-Pro. I would avoid the Fel-Pro replacement. NAPA sells an O-ring made by Hitachi (Part # ATM PA532) for $2.06. This Hitachi replacement is exactly the same as the Honda factory replacement. Verify the part numbers mentioned in my previous post apply to your vehicle. I have a 2001 Accord. I believe we share the same distributor unit made by Hitachi. My engine is a F23A1. If you have the same engine, I'm sure we have the same distributor unit. Lastly, out of curiosity.....check engine light on? Any misfire codes? Any other trouble codes?

P1298, no experience. I did replace my cat with an aftermarket unit, and it worked without any issues. However, with that said, I wish I would have paid the dealer to put it on for me. I made a big mistake going somewhere else. I asked a local shop to put it on. The shop specialized in after market exhaust systems for mostly GM vehicles. I figured these guys work on exhaust systems, they must know what they are doing. They did put it on for me, but they broke three studs in the cylinder head. They never mentioned this. Long story short, they glued **** back on and sent me on my way. Just make sure whoever puts it on doesn't break ****.

Re: Honda Accord Ex 2000
if it's leaking inside the cap you need to replace the internal seal, and there are two types, one for tec distributors and one for hitachi's

this kit has both and it has the outer oring as well

Re: Honda Accord Ex 2000
There is one seal located in the distributor center shaft and one that goes into the cylinder head. The one in the center shaft will require the total disassembly of the distributor. The job is a tricky but better then buying a new distributor. I know about it because I had both replaced on my 2000 Accord EXR about 3 years ago and they doing great.

Re: Honda Accord Ex 2000
If you do this job and you have the hitachi unit-There is a pin that is pressed in that is a bit tricky to get out. Harbor freight sells a motorcycle chain breaker tool that gets it out really easy. Definitely worth the 15 dollars. make sure when removing the pin that you mark where the coupler is in relation to the distributor as you don't want to re assemble it 180 degrees off axis.

Re: Honda Accord Ex 2000
You´re absolutely right. When a mechanic friend of mine and I did the job about 3 years ago we came across this hurdle. But luckly everything turned out ok. The seal and the o-ring are still there doing their job...

Re: Honda Accord Ex 2000
In case it helps, you can get a new aftermarket distributor from 1Aauto for $113, delivered. I put one on my 2000 Accord SE 4-cyl two years ago and it is still working perfectly.
