I have honda accord 98 4 cyl with 300k miles, i took it for emission it failed saying it is not ready and i have to drive 100-150 miles and bring it back drove it for 200 miles took it back it happened again. then drove for another 500 miles took it back and it failed again (not ready) . there is no check engine light.
someone told me it could be electrical problem which is resetting the computer. It could be as simple as loose ground somewhere or bad computer.
can anyone had same problem? any help greatly appreciated.

Take it to a place like AutoZone and see if they will hook up a code scanner to it and read the codes for free and clear them too. If not, ask them what is the cheapest scanner that will check for the same things that are checked during an emissions inspection and clear codes. It should cost less than $50. Or you can get a mechanic to hook up a scanner and charge you $100 to check it. If you clear the codes and immediately have it inspected it might pass even if it has a problem. My best suggestion for helping it pass is to run some fuel injector cleaner through it (Seafoam or Gumout or just run a tank of really good premium gas like Mobil or Shell or Texaco). Run it on the highway in D3, so that the revs are higher, for about 30 min out one way and 30 min back. This will not only improve the fuel injector spray pattern, it may also clean the valves and thereby improve the valve seating which should improve the emissions as well. Check the spark plugs and the air filter too and replace them if needed.

as explained in my post there is no (CEL or check engine light) code. It is behaving like when you clear the code andf take it for emission and there computer will say it is not ready.

it failed emmissions. Thre report said that the OBD is not ready. The mechanic gave me a print out, asked me if I had recently disconnected the battery, and told me to drive it for 70 miles and come back for emmission only inspection. What could be the cause of OBD not ready? print out says catalyst = not completed evaporative system = not completed
