Honda 1998 v6 accelerates then loses power and accelerates again
hi guys,
i need help.
So my honda v6 1998 accord ex recently started to accelerate very strange. I put my foot on the pedal to accelerate it starts accelerating. While my foot is on the gas pedal to accelerate it starts to drop in speed like if my car was clogged or something. Then after a few seconds it starts accelerating again. Keep in mind my foot has been On the gas pedal the entire time. if I leave my foot on the pedal long enough it eventually accelerates after a few seconds. I've also noticed if I let go of the gas pedal and try to accelerate again it starts accelerating normally.
Things I've already done:
changed:
spark plugs
plug wires
tps
changed transmission fluid
cleaned the egr passage
cleaned the throttle body
still
no luck getting My honda to accelerate normally without loosing acceleration power. It happens so randomly but it is still annoying having to be jerked so frequently by my car.
Any ideas what what else I can change or clean???
i need help.

Have you checked your CV joints? It happened with mine as well, except mine was knocking at me when I turned and let me know to replace them. Not totally sure that's what's wrong with yours but that might be something you want to check.

Hi guys,
I haven't checked cv joints nor changed the distributor cap. Thanks for the feedback ima change the cap post if it resolved the issue. Then I'll check the cv joints although my accord isn't knocking on turns, but still just to be sure I'll check.
thabks again for the suggestion.

Given what you already tried, I think it is most likely either a fuel pump/fuel pressure issue or a clogging-up catalytic converter. If it was me, I would go borrow a fuel pressure tester from a place like AutoZone and check the pressure with the car at idle and under acceleration, and hopefully the lag would happen while you had it attached and you could see the fuel pressure drop. If possible also check the exhaust pressure before and after the catalytic converter. Scotty Kilmer has a good YouTube video on checking those things. As much time as you've put into it, and as frustrating as it must be to still have it, I would suggest watching some Schrodinger's box YouTube videos and begin taking a more analytical/diagnostic approach. You can also subscribe to alldatadiy.com for about $30 and get the exact troubleshooting and repair information for any and all problems on your car. ( If you saved the old parts that you replaced, hang on to them for future use since it looks like there was nothing wrong with them and they may come in handy to re-install in the future if the new parts fail).

just fyi a fuel pump on ebay is literally $10, no need to use a tester, just replace it. mine went out at 150k and it caused the car to die while driving, totally dead stick on the freeway. your problem could be anything. friction/ clutch disks worn out, litterally anything. the egr port actually runs to the water passage, if you were dumb like me and didn't use a vacuum cleaner while cleaning it the crud you sprayed down that egr hole goes the the water passge where it can get stuck down there. water passage is easy-ish to remove though
