Default HELP 1998 honda accord ex automatic transmission problem

i was driving my sister's 98 honda accord ex after she notice some problem with the car not going past 40 without shifting gear. So i took it for a drive to the closest auto part store to get the check engine light check at it bought up so codes like egr valve, o2 and tcm. Can the Transmission control module cause the transmission not the shift gear or hard shifting. And where is the transmission control module located. If the TCM is bad what can it do? I notice that sometimes the car feel like it was slipping and it wouldnt shift to i think 4th if i am correct cause when the car is at 40mph the rpm is at 3.5k-4k. IF anybody knows what the problem is then any help would be great. Thanks

The TCM should be up under the dash. It sounds like your car didn't shift out of 2nd gear.

Hey tpot90 and anyone else-

I have had the similiar problem and it happens when I am going up hill. That is the only time I recognize that the RPMs increase and I do not accelerate. I have also noticed that traveling on a flat surface the RPMs are 200 - 400 higher. I thought it might be the TCM? What would you say? Like the others I fear it is an internal transmission problem.

If it is the TCM, where is it located and how hard is it to change? Thanks

rpms that are higher than normal are usually caused by the ECU thinking the car has not warmed up yet....MOST LIKELY CAUSE IS bad thermostat.....fix that issue and see if the rest remain or are cleared up.

i had a simular problem with my accord as well. the check engine light turnned on when the trans started to slip. i ran the code and came up with a po715, or a speed sensor. so then i bought one from honda and replaced it myself. the tranny is still slipping and i can smell the fluid burnning. what could be causeing the transmission to be heating up and slipping? the other day i lost all gears all together but yet after a day of sitting the car will drive, but now there's a high pitch wine comming from the trans. i honestly think its done. i just want to know what went wrong with it.
