Hey guys, I really want to do a semi cheap mod to my OEM headers. I was thinking of wrapping it in those heat wrap. I don't feel like buying a whole header and stuff.

So if I wrap my OEM headers in the heatwrap, will the oem headers crack or something? I just want to lower down my engine bay temp.

BTW this is on a 96 Accord EX!!!

Well, you're going to have a hell of a time wrapping that stock manifold up like you want to. It's hell even on an aftermarket one where the runners have plenty of space in between each other. You have to pull some wrap off the roll and feed it thru the holes and start wrapping it, keeping a 1/4" overlap and pulling it tight - all the while feeding more wrap from off the roll. It's backwards from the way you would normally wrap something, you're essentially wrapping it from the end to the beginning.

With something like a stock header, you'd be better off either wrapping the whole entire thing, enclosing all the runners inside a outter shell of wrap, OR just wrapping your CAI and whatever else you want to keep cool.

I wrapped my intake first before tackling the header and could even tell a difference in a more consistent amount of power from that. After the header was wrapped a couple of months later, the difference was again, noticable.

o nice! I haven't seen how tight the spacing it yet, but sounds good. Do you have any pictures of it? What do you think of wrapping all the way to the down pipe?

im not sure of this it may be contorversial, but jet-hot???

thing is it doesnt allow the heat to dissapte for the manifold, so the heat stays inside and heat the hell out of the cat, dont know if thats bad or not? but you can hts jet-hot stuff you wanna keep cool too

by keeping the heat in the exhaut the exhaust flow becomes better, you may notice a bit more power. If you put it in to water it becomes more better for wraping
