H22 Emissions
I have a 93 USDM h22 to put into my 94 accord. Should I worry about emissions? I also wanted to make 250 horsepower with the engine but I have to worry about passing emissions every 2 years. How do you guys make all that horsepower and still pass emissions?
By the way I live near Milwaukee and they tend to frown upon aftermarket stuff. I failed 2 times and they had to visually inspect my engine bay and said they wouldn't test me again until I lost the cold air intake. Thanks for your time.

The CAI is not a problem. I bought a stock airbox so if they need to check again I can just throw that on. I just passed today with the CAI on with flying colors.
I'm more concerned about the motor being a 93 and my car being a 94 and not passing emissions. I'm going to keep the EGR, cat, and other emission stuff on the h22, but I wanted to make 250 horsepower.

Re: H22 Emissions (bitbycarbug)
Are you going to have your car ref? If not, then don't worry about passing emission or not because if you plan to hit 250hp, don't think you can pass smog....

I'm sorry, I'm not familiar with the "ref" term. Might be a cali thing but we have to have our cars smogged every 2 years. So, as hp goes up so does emissions numbers? I guess I'll have to look for other methods to getting around our little emission test. Hopefully these lawmakers act on what they been saying and stopping emissions for 95 and older.

You can always get a chipped ECU and get an aggressive NA tune.
Then, when inspection time comes, use your stock ECU and pass. Or keep a cat, pcv system, etc

For now, if I keep an h22 stock with a stock ecu, and keep smog items, will my 93 h22 pass in my 94 accord? That's what I'm worried about. I want to start the swap in the spring and don't want put all this money and time into it and just end up failing.

It all depends on what state your in and if they go as far as matching VINs to determine the year of production for the vehicle the engine was in. You should look it up on the dmv.

Re: H22 Emissions (awdgsx96)
They don't match engine and car vin's. All they do is check the vin of the car to make sure your bringing in the right car to get tested.
The only time they looked under my hood was when I failed 3 times with my f22 and before the 4th test they wanted to take a look for anything not "stock looking". If the h22 can post numbers similar to my f22 then I think I can pass.
:Edited to make sense:
By the way, thanks for all the help guys. I've tried searching but this seems to be a very unique problem.

with a stock h22 you should be able to pass fine outside of Cali. also the year difference isn't that big a deal. it wasn't till 96 that the swapped over to obd2, thats were you got to make sure that it is a 96 or newer motor, and components.

Thanks. I'll be sure to keep you guys updated on the status of the car.
