Is it a good deal?

Well just to introduce my self my name is Isaias, I currently drive a 99 Ford Mustang 3.8 that I love, but unfortunately with these gas prices I'm being forced to ditch the Mustang and try to find a V4 with decent gas millage. So here it goes.

I'm being offered a 1993 Honda Accord Lx leather interior, sunroof, automatic doors and locks, manual, fairly new tires, new clutch, new front wind shield, new battery, new motor fan and fly wheel. It runs but has a blown head gasket and no pressure in the clutch system. Everything else is in good condition.

How much do you think it will be to fix this car to run good?

Is it a good deal?

Thanks for all your help! http://is.rely.net/1-92-29998-l-1gbM...AmVuBW3hGg.gif

$1000 tops in my opinion.

What's the mileage on it?

(It's an I4 btw, not a V4)

This guy wants $800, How much you think I need to fix the car?

What is the difference between a I4 a V4? Sorry I'm new to the import scene. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emwink.gif

The way the cyclinders are.

Well it's really the same for ALL cars, not just imports:

Your V6 is, well in the shape of a V three cylinders go one way, three go the other.

An I4 is (inline 4) the four cylinders are all in a row with each other.

If he's asking 800 that sounds like a decent deal. What's the mileage on it? You'll want to have the timing belt / water pump (major service) every 70k or so. I haven't had a head gasket go, so I can't give you a estimate on the price to fix, I'd say less than 1000. Someone can probably chime in on it who's had it done.

OR just call shops around you.

Re: (isaias4u2nv)

there's a few general types of engine setup's out there. The most popular ones are straight engines and v engines. The straight engines have all the cylinders aligned one after another in a straight line. So it could be something like a five or six cylinder and still be a straight engines which would be considered an i4, i5, i6 the i standing for inline.

Then you have the v engines. Thats where the cylinders are splint in a arangment where half of the cylinders are on one side of the block and the rest are on the other side. So your stang is a v6 with three cylinders on each side with each 3 cylinders having its own
cylinder head and intake manifold that sits in between that.

Then you also have a few other setups like the vw's interesting vr6 setup. still a v6 with a
15 degree angle utilizing one head and intake manifold on one side and the exhaust on the other like a four banger.

Then you have the h style engines which you'll find in subura's and porsches if im not
mistaken.

If anybody has anything to add to this please feel free to https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

Re: (isaias4u2nv)

if the car is in great shape then its a good deal, if there are other problems, any body damage, interior all hacked up then its no so much of a deal. but you can pick up a whole
new engine for a couple bills and its a pretty easy swap just stick with the same engine if you dont know what your doing.

TheMuffinMan 04-21-2008 03:35 PM

So it'd be possible he hasn't done the second MAJOR service, so you'd have to keep that in mind, that's approx $400-600. (like I said interval is 70k - 100k )

So you may be looking at like a decent chunk of $$ to get it fully going.
