Just your cat? or the header and all? heat sheild might be in the way to see if the exhaust manifold was glowing, but some one in the past posted somehting similiar and the diagnosis was incorrect valve timing/overlap. ANyone else chime in and help? thats just my guess... just trying to help

Re: glowing red exhaust
yea, it could be clogged. i know that with both of my f23a1 6g's that ive owned, both of their cats went bad right around 100k miles. so that could be your problem...it sounds like it is.

yeah dude...get that fixed man...ive seen where the cat gets hot and if driven for a while that hot it can actually catch the carpet on fire. not to mention melt anything close to it.

Re: glowing red exhaust
cat is clogged...100% sure as ive seen it happen before....figure you cat at normal operation is at temps upward of 1500 degrees...being clogged would turn it red hot n stall the car

Obviously, this isn't good for the converter. It can tolerate small incursions into these heat ranges, but it most often leads to melted converter elements. (which also leads to clogged converters)
The 'dying" comments could be referring to fouled plugs which would confirm a mixture issue

Re: glowing red exhaust
It would appear that you're dealing with a super rich condition which is overworking the catalytic converter. That's why it was glowing. I've seen them light up under a car like a light was on, and I've also seen a dealer loose a car off the carrier when the interior ignited from the heat.
