Default 420 (Throttle Control) code for 97 accord SE

What does one do to correct/replace a 420 code/throttle control? The engine has been running VERY rough.

many thanks

There is only one fix for a 420 code....... Smoke it, Smoke it, Smoke it!

Now on the other hand a DTCode P0420 is to replace the catalytic converter I believe not the throttle control. Maybe able to get away with replacing the secondary O2.

Check out this thread about the P0420

Then why did the ODB reader indicate there was a throttle control issue after the P420 code?

Thanks

Not sure, is your OBD scanner set to work with the Honda OBD type?

A P420 isn't a listed Honda Code. However a P0420 is a relevant OBDII Honda Diagnostics trouble code. And it represents, as stated above, a problem with the catalyst. "P0420 Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold".

I'm not sure what else to tell you.

Check out the Honda DTC list in this thread if you would like a second opinion. Click Here!

Any recommendations for an OEM version of the cat converted? Dealer saying the damage will be $800 - $900 (installed).

800-900$ wow. Go somewhere else and have it done, but use OE parts.

You are looking at at least $450 for a new OEM catalytic converter and that's just for the part. Now depending on whether or not you have ever replaced the middle pipe and the B pipe on your Accord. You may be looking at replacing both of those as well. They are the tow pipes that bolt to the converter. The middle pipe is about $70 for an OEM and the B pipe is $220 OEM price.

The above prices are from Honda Parts Deals dot com. You may be able to get them cheaper at one of the other OEM part dot com's, but probably not much.

My suggestion would be to take your car to a local muffler shop and get a quote on a smog legal direct fit cat. Do you absolutely require an OEM Cat. If not and you don't want to pay $400+. I'm pretty sure you can get a Magnaflow direct fit cat for under $150 that will pass smog.
