Does it go away when you car is warmed up? Does it happen only when you first start after an overnight or long sit?

Although it does it erraticaly, it may still be the lifters. On some cars with hydrolic lifters, changing the oil may help.

If you haven't done anything like this before, just take it to a mechanic and tell them what you would like done.

I personally wouldn't, at least not on my daily driver.

There's no shame in not wanting to risk accidental damage to your motor.
