Well, on your 82 accord hatchback with the turbo V-12 Cummins diesel engine you'll need to loosen the pivot point bolt, then the "tension stay" bolt then use a big pry bar to get more tension. Tighten the tension stay bolt and then tighten the pivot bolt.

Re: Alternator Belt (eauto)
i usually tighten mines, not too tight, but until i cant turn the belt past 90 degrees or see the ribs while looking straight down at it .
in some manuals, it will give you a torque specification for the adjusting bolt or it will tell you to measure the belt deflection by applying some force down on the belt with a ruler and make sure its around 3/8 to 1/2 inches .

Re: Alternator Belt (redxalien)
my **** is sqeaks when it wet.
what are the torque specs for replacing belts on a 97 accord?
Is the alternator belt on the outter part or nearest to the timing belt? i'm guessing the outter belt is the ac belt

This truely is not intended as an insult.....if you can't figure that out you might want to pay a mechanic to do it. It is most likely the inner belt meaning you will have to pull the power steering and air belts first.

Re: Alternator Belt (alotawatts)
Yeah I agree, no offense but if you can't find the alternator and it's belt, then honestly I dunno if you should be messing with them - I would hate for that belt to snap or fall off on the highway and you'd be stranded.
