Does 1989 Accord have IACV ?

Just bought 1989 Accord for son's senior year rebuild project. He rebuilt engine and it starts fine, high idle is about 2500rpm's but after warm up, it will not idle without foot on gas pedal and then only at at about 1100 rpm. I have read the posts about cleaning the IACV to help with the idle but can not find it on the back of the manifold. I see one coolant line going in to what looks like the back of the manifold and another coming out, but nothing that looks like the IACV body pictured in the other "Cleaning your IACV" posts.

Does the 1989 Accord have an IACV ?

Thanks, Ray

The Accord DX, LX carbureted do not
http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/...LD+%28CARB.%29

The Accord LXi and SEi do have an Idle Air Control valve
http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/...9+%28+88-89%29
Refer:

Number # 8 is the fast idle valve and is themally activated by hot water from the coolant system.
Number #9 is the IACV

Check that your coolant system is free of air and completely full. These will often idle high if the coolant is low.

Re: Does 1989 Accord have IACV ?

Thanks P,

At least I know why I didn't find the IACV. The high idle is ok but when it warms up, it will not idle without a little help from the gas pedal. We "burped" the coolant and we are checking for vacuum leaks and have adjusted the low idle screw, but the idle, when it does idle is rough and wavering.

1. Is there a way to clean out any "idle" oriffices or passage ways with out disassembing the carb?

2. If it helps to diagnose...When it is warm and trying to low idle, IF I close the "choke" just a little, it runs better but not great. Seams too lean maybe!!!

Thanks, Ray
