I assume the sidewall is toast, is there any chance that the tire can be dismounted and then remounted, and maybe fix my problem? I am wondering if the bead popped off, causing the bubble. The rim looks straight by eye, I am not too worried about that. I drive at constant highway speed everyday so a blow out would not be too favorable on the way to or from work, I need to take care of this ASAP. I think I am gonna swing by Honda and see if they can remount. Any suggestions? Or should I just order a new tire? |
Re: damn potholes (CBL9)
just get a new tire
|
the cords on the sidewall are done, remounting will do nothing but waste more money

yeah...tire is toast. This is why you get road hazard protection. Unless you bought the tires from tirerack.com or something you should be covered with little if any out of pocket expense. |
Re: (Schmitey)
i think he is screwed. tire hazard don't cover if the damage is outside of the threads. thats the only place tire places warranty, the reparable area. sometimes you can get lucky, depending on how many miles are on the tire and they might hook you up.

Nice tsx' wheels.....but you need a new tire.

Re: damn potholes (CBL9)
Consider yourself lucky. My wife and I were driving through New Orleans and a water line had busted under the road. The pavement cracked and sank about 3 inches. This worked just like a shear, and totally destroyed both tires on that side of the car. Had to call a taxi to drive us around looking for a tire shop that was open on a Saturday (two blown tires, and only one spare). After that incident, I bought another full size wheel for the car, and had two spares (temporary, and slightly damaged full size wheel). I don't think I've passed on Canal St. in New Orleans since that day.

What are you talking about!?! I've worked at three different tire places and any of them would have replaced this tire no questions asked if you had purchased their road hazard plan! Yeah its not covered by manufacture warranty, but that's because its not a defect! I wouldn't pay a dime for that tire no matter where I went, and I wouldn't put up with any excuses either. Just start being belligerent and explaining how you got screwed to prospective customers in line and you'll get your way every time! Sad but true...the nice guys get nowhere with management. |
Re: (Schmitey)
or, you just cut a 2"slit in the tread of the tire. Non-repairable gash in the tread falls under road hazard.
|
Re: damn potholes
Happend to me and a day later my tire blew out and the bubble turned into a 3" cut on the sidewall. Just replace the tire, only real option.

Re: damn potholes (technine)
yeah, that tire is shot, go get it replaced
|
Re: damn potholes (CBL9)
I know how it feels. I popped a tire on a pothole driving a customers car when I was a Honda technician. Wasn't even driving that fast either, about 35mph.

Re: damn potholes (WuWarrior)
