Default Cost of auto to manual swap? # of labor hours?

How much in parts does it cost to get a 1996 honda accord EX swapped from an auto to manual. Also how many hours would it take?

Your going to new a new ecu, manual transmission, pedal assembly, clutch, flywheel, master and slave cylinders (hydro-tranny). This is a partial list that I could come up with.

it may be different where you are, but many shops around here won't even consider doing a conversion like this (or other custom work.) i think because of liability, at least they claim...

anyway, if you can find a shop to do it, don't be suprised if they quote a little high.. $500-800 labor. just putting a replacement transmission in would be 5-6 hours labor ($65/hr is avg i would guess), then add the "extra, custom install" for the rest and who knows...

don't let me talk you out of it, just be prepared for large numbers. maybe you'll be pleasantly suprised by much less. i'd suggest calling around to a few shops to see what they say, and if they'd even do the job.

Ive looked into it,IMO NOT WORTH IT. If you really want to have a stick, I suggest you sell your car and look for the same one but stick already.

if you are mechanicly litterate and know your way around your engine bay, do some research, and buy the parts yourself.... you can easily do the swap yourself or with a buddy or buddies for less then $500..... just remember..... always use a new cutch and flywheel, DO NOT forget to double check your work... if you are unsure about how something fits..... look it up..... if a bolt or nut isnt going in... it may be the wrong size... DO NOT leave out any bolts, screws, or nuts because that one bolt, screw,or nut can be the cause of a flywheel coming loose, a tranny falling off of your motor (yes this happens i've seen it), your shifter assembly coming off of your floor board while your driving, or just something screwing up......

be careful and good luck

i found a shop that said they'd do it but the guy said somethin about the chip not being compatible or something of that sort. not quite sure what he meant since i'm not too familiar with cars yet.

The swap is documented in the Accord FAQ. Unless you're doing the work yourself you are much better off buying a new car that is manual to start with.

did this swap to a 00 4dr integra during the 2009 spring break, took 2 weeks (working at job also). my buddy got all the parts for $850-$1000. paid me $300 to do the swap. runs fine, were using this original auto ecu, seems to work fine, no CEL.

did this a couple weeks ago, took maybe a total of 12-15 hours over a weekend, cost me maybe about $1000, definitely worth it especially if you have already done things to the car,

I did the swap to my 94 EX. it took like 15 ish hours, but I'm not sure because i did the pedals like a month before i did anything eles. If you can do the work ur self, and your willing to have your car down for a while, then all you'll have to pay for is the parts (check out the auto-5 speed thread in the faq's) But if ur not that mechanically inclined then at lest you should be able to do the pedals, clutch lines, the wiring, ECU, and install the shifter. (at lest thats what I could do by myself) then Have some one help you, or pay some one to do the Tranny Mount bracket, the shifter cables, Fly wheel, clutch, and the tranny.

Mine actually cost less than that. I bought a same generation accord on Craigslist with a bad engine and good manual transmission for $500. I pulled most of the parts I used from that car and then sold it to a pick and pull yard for $425 without the transmission. I did buy a few other items separately and a few more tools but all told my cost was still $300-500. As for hours, probably 20 hours total, not including research done ahead of time, it would have been less if I hadn't forgotten a couple parts/had a driveway/had air tools....

Yeah.... the original thread was posted 7 years ago. I'm sure prices and avalability for beat up J/Y Accords has changed since then!

Make a few calls to local parts places and junk yards. to get prices on parts. If you are not able to do the labour yourself. Call a few garages and get some labour quotes! $/hr will be different from one town/city to the next!
