Default Replace thermostat and now it's knocking

I just replaced a thermostat bought at autozone rated at 192 degree. When i took my old one off, it is rated at 78celcius = 172 degree. Now whenever i accelerate, i can hear a knocking sound from the engine bay. Is my car running too hot with 192 degree thermostat? Since I put the new thermostat, my fan always kicks on after i turn off my car. I just put in a higher octane gas (plus) and it seems like the knocking is getting less obvious. Does hotter engine require higher octane gas? One more thing, my car now drinks more oil than before i replace the t-stat. It seems like this 192 t-stat gives me more troubles than my stucked-open t-stat. Should i change the t-stat to lower temp rating?

I have a 1992 accord that I replaced the thermostat in when I put my new radiator in. The autoparts store sold me a part that not only looks different than the oem part, but they seem to have no clue that it's way hotter!

I ended up going right to the dealer, beacause my temp gauge was always fluctuating, and HONDA supplied me with an OEM part for about $18 bucks. Works perfectly!!! I've had to face the fact, that important OEM parts need to be purchased throught your local dealer.....

what is now happening is that your thermostat is not opening early enough and the car is running too hot. your supposed to get the thermostat to open earlier if you want to run it cooler. sounds like the car is running hot making for higher cylinder temps causing it to detonate. i would add premium fuel in it for now until you swap it out, since the premium fuel is less prone to denotation.

i have a 94 accord with a 192 degree thermostat, everything is working fine, but the radiator fan turns on always after i shut down my car.. i might have to goto the dealership and get an oem thermostat.

thats totally normal, its supposed oto do that.......clean off ur engine bay.....less grime = better heat dispersion = cooler running temps
