Default cheapest direct F22A1 replacement?

I see no cheap replacement for a blown F22A1? Thats for a 90 Accord Auto.

All the JDM F22's will need another ECU and wiring.....

It makes no sense to get a boneyard F22A1, the mileage would be way up there.

This is Juniors first car and he refused to have it inspected before buying.......about
the 3rd drive, it overheats and engine is gone.

So an H22A is out of the question and he needs a solid daily driver. I'm looking
for no sweat with ECU or wiring conversions while getting the lower mileage engine....

blah are u kidding

thiers alot of write ups on this...

anyways heres whats up

jdm f22 dont need ecu or wiring. i dont know where you got that from?

the h22 needs like 3 or 4 extra wires and a computer

u can get an ecu for it for as cheap as 50 bucks, im selling one for a hundred

h22's are cheap now, i got mine for 750

ok you dont want an h22

the f22b1 is a horrible engine

so that leaves us with...

the jdm f22b dohc, the usdm h23 and jdm or usdm f22a

f22b dohc/h23 dohc ~ 600 shipped 160hp
*note, you can use the stock ecu, but a p14 (or any other ecu) will bring out the full potential... you can find other ecu's (chipped) that will run this engine incredibly for <150 dollars.

you can also find a stock lude ecu (p14) for 75 bucks on ebay or craigslist etc.

f22a's are cheap, even jdm you should be able to get off with 400 dollars

i dont know why you think you need different wiring for the jdm

Id go with a h23/f22b dohc non-vtec swap. There about 5-800 bucks depending on where you get it.

no, it's not as simple as that.

for example, the 94-97 F22B1 came with an internal coil and the 94-97 F22B2 came with an external coil. I believe the H22 also came with an internal and external coil, I just can't recall the years and/or JDM or USDM.

Also, what makes the F22B1 a "horrible engine"?

f22b1 head has horrible flow. its design is poor compared to the f22a head. also its not true vtec since its still single overhead cam. more of an economy vtec than performance.

as far as external/internal that only applied to the f22a being after 1991.

but i think were confusing this guy lol.

get and f22b dohc.

whats the point in quoting me four times?

and no other sohc f series head has as good of flow as the F22Ax heads, thats known, but that doesn't make the F22Bx or F23Ax engines "horrible".

If you want horsepower without VTEC try these:
F22B6 - Odyssey engine with 140HP
F22B5 - European Odyssey (or Shuttle) 150HP!

The only difference mechanically is the camshaft. Both are SOHC.

my comp is retarded with the 4 qoutes

this is why the f22b sohc head sucks
look at the cfm difference stock and pnp

right, the Bx heads aren't as good as the Ax heads.

Also, those flow numbers are for the F22B2 and if I'm not mistake the F22B1 has slightly larger intake valves (but I'm not 100% sure so don't quote me on that).

Too bad they don't test for the full lift. On an F22B2 the lobe height is 38.526mm (intake) and 38.778mm (exhaust) which is about 1.5 inches. The cfm test is only up to 0.550 inches. The test doesn't prove one head is better than the other.

I'm in the market myself for a backup/replacement motor for my daily and I'm leaning towards the f22b/f23 for better mpg.

Building an F22B1 SOHC VTEC with the right mods, you'd stomp any SOHC out there. My F22B1 with Bisi Level 2 VTEC cam made 140whp on a tuned Hondata S100 P28 chip ECU. I bought the ECU from Cali and should've taken it in to get it tuned again for more power but sold it after a few months.

There is no DOHC F22A1, are you thinking about the 2.2L Non VTEC DOHC F22B?

There are a few swap threads on putting an F22B into a CB Accord. Search for F22B swap or go to cb7tuner.com. I know there are a few guys that have done DOHC swaps on that forum. It's not an overly complicated swap from what I have seen. ECU is the biggest hurdle in most cases. A chipped and tuned OBD1 ECU would be a good option on that front.
