Valvoline Maxlife ATF instead of Honda DW-1?

My accord has an un-smooth shift, specially from 1st to 2nd gear, and I was thinking about changing the trans fluid with Valvoline Maxlife ATF since the dealership is quite far off. Would this be alright or will it screw up my transmission? The car has 160k miles on it and if anything, it's only had it's tranny fluid changed once.
I know most people say "Honda ATF only" but I also heard Maxlife does a pretty good job too.

Re: Changing the transmission fluid.

I for one like Maxlife ATF, i have 4 Accords & a Acura Cl. 4 of them r autos w/ Maxlife ATF in them, and my neighbors V6 Oddy van w/ no issues. If the tranny is failing the new fluid will do you no good.

Re: Changing the transmission fluid.

I would stick with Honda AtF just because the tranny is old. What color is the tranny fluid ? is there metal shavings ?

Re: Changing the transmission fluid.

The topic has been covered many times and there is a reason why the majority of people say to only use OEM Honda fluid.
