am i being ripped off?

took my 05 accord in and after doing a diagnostic, they said the back brakes needed replacing and the master cylinder was damaged and needed replacing as well. the final price was $1100. Does that sound right, or does it sound like they are really just over charging?

is this at honda? what's their hourly shop rate? rear brakes should be 2.5hrs x shop rate, master cylinder 2hrs x shop rate with bleeding brakes. what parts are they replacing for rear brakes? machining rotors/new rotors+pads? $1,100 sounds like it's kind of where it should be for that job. i'm a service advisor at a local stealership here in anchorage, ak.

do a little reading up on....you should be able to do the back brakes....I never worked on a newer accord so I dont know if they have drum or disc back brakes...but regardless...give it a try yourself....it saves you alot of money https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

Thanks for your input, everyone. Yes it is at a dealership. And they actually brought the price down to $900, saying that they gave the original price thinking that the roters would have to be replaced. Ah, well..as long as the car is fixed I'm okay with it I guess.
Have a good week!

Wasn't there a recall on some of the 7th gen master cylinders? Might wanna check into that.

if you let the Honda dealer do it (i would recommend this) call HOA and ask for goodwill assistance.......it is HIGHLY UNLIKELY that a master cylinder is bad on a 05 car

So the master cylinder is damaged huh?.. How so?.. What's your car doing?? I can't tell you how many times I've seen that one. My brakes feel mushy and such and it turns out to be something else..
