Have gen3 89 accord w/ auto. Couple of times hot when idling in park all of a sudden this knocking starts. Sounds like someone hitting w/ a hammer under the hood. I'll shut car off and restart & noise is gone. first time thought it was mains knocking and saw visions of big bucks for a rebuild but motor is ok. wondering if it could be p/s pump? knocking comes from left of engine compt. A/c compressor is seized w/ no belt so can't be that. Also in 2nd gear at 35 mph have a shuddering feel.As soon as car shifts into 3rd it's ok. My trans guy at work (GM dLr) tried it & said there was bad motor mount. Changed front and rr but still there. He said if it was clutches or a tranny bearing it would have gone long time ago. had this since purchased 2 yrs ago and since have put on 40,000m. Have drained fluid 3 times and no leaks. Any ideas??
