Accord Accident
My buddy got into an accident and his airbags deployed, I was wondering to fix the airbag problem (currently duct taped right now) does he just need new airbags? Obviously this would fix the cosmetic problem, but would it be safe? Would the new airbags deploy in the event of another crash? Or does something have to be reset in the computer? I am not sure what year the car is, as I don't know accords very well but I know it's between 94-97. Thanks for the help

I'm pretty sure an airbag is a one time use... The chemical content has been mixed. So yea... He definitely needs new airbags....
When he gets the new airbag, I'm not sure the next time it can deploy or not.... I know that a sensor in the bumper bar area probably got mess up.
I don't suggest working on it as DIY. You should bring it to a certified mechanic. More in the lines of a Honda Dealer or any pro... Because this is a safety device.

i am just talking about pulling out the airbag of another steering wheel and putting it in for cosmetics. wouldn't even have to hook it up

Pretty sure you can. But the SRS light is going to B**** at you. Don't do this and sell the car. or even for cosmetic. Like I said it's a safety device. And obviously, it saved your friend's life.
Bring it to a pro. BTW isn't it recorded with the DMV if you crash and airbags went off? and considered salvage title.

You can just replace the cover, but that would be getting rid of the safety part of it. A junkyard SRS unit and airbag aren't going to set you back that much.
And DMV has no idea the airbags have gone off unless you tell them or there is an insurance claim that totals the car. They won't know or care otherwise.

Re: (Captain Evil Monkey)
You'll need a new SRS unit and they are not cheap. Have to give the VIN and get from dealer. Airbags can be purchased from another car, but plugs are different for 94-95 and 96-97. You can cut the wires and splice the plugs as that's what I did. Make sure to have everything unhooked when working on this, and unhook battery, plug SRS unit in, plug bags in then connect battery.
