accord 1.8 vtec no power
Hi , I have a 2000 year model accord 1.8 v tec. Ive recently bought this car it has only 80000miles on the dash.
It has very little power , really struggles to get past 60mph , its worse when warm.
Surprisingly it has no engine management light showing .
it has plenty of oil , new plugs and air filter.
where do I start to check ?
kind regards
Richie

Re: accord 1.8 vtec no power
When turning the ignition to II(ON) does the CEL and other warning lamps come on for a moment and then turn off?
If the Check Engine light does not come on at all then it is most likely blown and will need to be replaced.
Verify the VTEC solenoid is connected and working.
Does the car not go faster than 60MPH, or does the engine simply not rev past 3K rpm in gear?
With a 1.8 I think the gear ratios would have your engine at 3K rpm ~60MPH.

Re: accord 1.8 vtec no power
Thanks for the replies , some info for you....
she will rev all the way to 6000 but takes forever
when she hits 5000 revs she starts to pull a bit better and feels like she wants to go.
the CEL comes on with ign and goes out after a few seconds , the light remains off
the spark plugs are very very clean when pulled indicating a weak mixture
the car will go above 60mph but only if its thrashed to 6000 rpm in every gear
for all the world IF this were an old , old , car , I would guess the ign timing was retarded , that's how it feels to me
its also only doing about 25 miles per gallon , that's with me taking it easy.....so something aint right
hope this helps
thanks guys.

Re: accord 1.8 vtec no power
Verify the basics.
Battery voltage is 12.4 with the car off, and ~14volts with the engine running.
Low battery voltage would cause a slow fuel pump/low fuel pressure.
Check fuel pressure with the car running. 38-46 PSi
If the pressure is low see if you can artificially raise it by unplugging the vacuum hose to the regulator, this should raise the pressure. If not the FPR may be damaged.
Artificially raise the fuel pressure by choking off the return line hose after the FPR with a clamp. If the fuel pressure still does not rise, then there may be a clog(fuel filter) or the pump may be dying or not receiving battery voltage. If it does rise then the FPR is in need of replacement.
