My 01 accord overheated on the interstate and immediately pulled over. The radiator was busted. We changed the radiator hoses and thermostat. Cranked it up for 20 min and thought it was fixed. As soon as I drove 5 min it was running hot. Was told it was head gasket because it was boiling out coolant. Took head off and its been pressure tested an machined. Put the new head gasket on with the same results. It will idle all day long but over heats as soon as you drive. What's the problem?

check water pump and radiator fan.

You could have an air bubble that won't come out or possible you heater core is clogged try to bypass it by disconnecting the two hoses in the fire wall and connecting them togeather bypassing the core

All the gaskets were changed with the head gasket. Fans are working. Timing belt and water pump were replaced by the dealership 35000 miles ago? We've bled the bolt behind the thermostat and the lower radiator hose gets warm. When the fans come on it continuously gets warmer til it overheats. Could it still be the water pump?

have you checked if any coolant hoses along the intake manifold got ballooned or blown?

does your radiator eat fluid?

Not losing any fluids that I can notice? All hoses look fine.

It started idling crazy and a idle control code comes up. Could this cause overheating?

on a cold engine, does the coolant bubble with the rad cap off?

Unless the thermostat was OEM I would suggest they gave you the wrong one. You could try taking it out and running without it.

it could be possible,if the idle air control valve is not opening or letting coolant pass through it it will show water temps are hot.

take it off and clean it thoroughly.should clear the code.it might help the overheat problem..its worth a try right?

is there any chance that you put the headgasket on backwards?


try running the car with the rad. cap off.if it bubbles and/or eats fluid a little,pour fluid in until its full and stops bubbling.cap it off and see if it overheats again.could be an air bubble in the coolant.

I found that the easyst way to connect those two heatr core hoses is get a back flush kit , The connector is inside. I strongly believe in coolant back flush every 2, 3 years.

After exhausting all other possibilities, I decided it had to be the radiator. When we took the bottom hose off to drain the radiator NOTHING came out. They didn't punch the hole in the radiator! Needless to say I found the problem. Thanks for the help. Oh by the way don't get an aftermarket radiator from oreilly auto parts!
