I suspect my TCU may be defective since I got the DTC code of p0700 and p0780 -shift error. The D4 transmission gear indicator was blinking and the car would not move forward very easily. Had to manually shift it to 1st gear to get the car moving, then shifted to D3 to let it run it's own course thru the gears then finally to D4 when I got up on the freeway. With the D4 still blinking at me, I got to my destination and parked the car and turned everything off. When I restarted the car, the blinking D4 was no longer happening.

The next morning this all happened again, except this time I turned off the engine and restarted it and the D4 stopped blinking at me and I could drive it in D4 no problem. Still shifted 1-2 harshly until after 3 blocks, then the transmission was fine.

Is there a way to test the TCU?

Based on the DTCs you listed, and what the shop manual states, I don’t think it is PCM (shifting is handled by the PCM, not a separate TCM control module).

P700 : CEL indicating there is a AT fault.
P780 : Mechanical problem in hydraulic control system on shift control solenoid valve A and A/T clutch pressure control solenoid valves A/B, or problem in PCM and hydraulic control system.

It states to replace shift control solenoid A assembly, and pressure control solenoid valve A/B assembly, reset PCM memory, then drive the car for several minutes in 1st, 2nd, 4rd, and D4. Then recheck for P780. If it comes back it states to replace the tranny.

Before spending the $, it may be worth just checking things out like coil resistance on these solenoids, and trying to clean any mesh filters in there like you first stated.

In last oil-change dealer identified like I need replace transmission, also I need start feeling jerk and slipping while merging with traffic i.e. say 0 to 20 mph after that driving is smooth. But engine light is good i.e. Not turned on yet.
Dealer suggesting remanufactured transmission with warranty 3years or 36,000 mileages cost around $2600 including labor. My question do I need to change transmission very soon or go with transmission flush and once Engine light turned ON then I need to go for remanufactured transmission. (fyi, I did transmission flush @ 85,000 mileage).
Please advice!
Hi,
I have exactly same problem with my v6 1999 accord. Mine has 85,000miles. So, did u get it rebuilt or replace by a dealer? And how much did u pay for that? thanks

You're looking at installing a used or remanufactured transmission. Forget the Lucas crap; it won't do anything.

Don't have it remanufactured by any local shops; I've seen way too many get it wrong.

A remanufactured transmission from Honda is $1700-1800 plus freight (~$110), installation labor, and a $1200 refundable core charge if you have it installed by anyone other than a Honda dealer. It comes with ATF and a 3 year/36,000 mile warranty.

Our shop has installed at least a dozen of these and none of them have come back. Final customer price installed has been about $2300 for most models. The quality of the Honda reman transmissions has been stellar thus far since they've addressed the core problems; it's a shame they didn't get them right the first time.

Hi,
whats the best with Accord trannys. Rebuild or replace with a used tranny?Mine is a v6 1999 accord with a 85,000miles. It jerks / slips on gear 2 only. And how much does it cost to have this done with all parts? thanks

I have an Accord LX 4 door, 2001. The transmission problem is similiar to those above, when cold it shifts harshly from 1st to 2nd and the 4th (normal run position) gear indicator light starts flashing which I assume indicates a problem with the transmission. If I drive it for say, 10 Km, stop and restart the engine it runs fine for most (>95%) of the time and has been doing this for 3 years. Given the cost of repair we have just lived with the problem, it is get worse I may just pull in apart myself as the cost of repair for this vehicle where we live is too high.

O boy, Its a transmission issue... I spent $2620 on my repairs. It does not feel good on my pocket. Though its repaired by rebuilding the tranny. Honda is a rip off.. Good luck..

I have a 99 accord with the same issue but mine was resolved easily i did so much research it wasnt even worth it because most honda accords 98-02 have this problem mine was rebuilt for 2000 and it runs perfect.trust me if you are going to sell it the do it because if not you are going to spend all of your money on the new one or the rebuilt one
