99 Accord EX, Throwing Code 22, Cause and Effect Question
My friend's Mom asked me to check out her 99 Accord EX, F23A1 Auto because it was throwing a CEL. I jumped it and it is code 22 (vtec malfunction). Also, the car will not rev over 4000, which is I believe an effect of the vtec prob. These are the two things I have always believed to be the cause of this code:
1) low oil level
2) low oil pressure
Unfortunately at the time, I was in a rush and didn't even think to check the obvious - the oil level. I will get to that tomorrow.
Normally a search yields me with enough results for me to figure out what I need to do, but this time I am still uncertain as to what could be causing this and what I need to do to fix it. Please advise.

dont ******* drive it if the oil pressure is fucked, it will **** you motor up big time.

Well, she has been driving it like this for weeks, and I told her not to drive it anymore when I looked at it. She said there was a problem when it shifted around 4000, so I simply revved it up to see. Any other suggestions?

Re: (f22a)
before you replace the vtec solenoid, pull it off and clean/replace the screen behind it.
check resistance between the wire connector on the solenoid and ground. you should have between 14 and 30 ohms
