Alternator belt squeak on startup
Hey Guys, I recently changed the timing belt in my friends 98 LX f23a1. Everything went well but when I was all done the alternator belt quickly chirps on startup then goes away. It's been annoying him so I went over to fix it today by tightening up the belt, but no matter how tight (within reason) I get it, it still squeeks only for a quick sec when the engine starts. I'm really confused as to why the belt squeaks now and that it didn't before I changed his timing belt. All I did to it was take it off, put it back on and retension it. I am going to try and replace it tomorrow but if that still doesn't fix it, I was wondering what else could be the culprit? Any help would be appreciated thanks .

Yeah I didn't think there was much that could go wrong. I'll get a new belt and clean the pulleys tomorrow and keep ya posted. Thanks.

Re: Alternator belt squeak on startup
i had this issue except it was far worse than yours, it would squeal non stop. it turned out that the tightener bolt under the alternator has come completely out, loosen the mount bolts on the alternator then tighten the adjustment bolt down as much as you can without stretching the belt. then re-tighten the mounting bolts. fixed it for me and not a squeal since.

no matter how much I tightened my power steering belt, it wouldnt shut up on startup..
eventually sprayed it with some silicone spray and it shut it up well..

Mine does that all the time. Turns out it was the bearings in the alternator failing. You should check that too. I would do a voltage test both at your battery and at your alternator. See if your alternator is failing. If so, get that muhfugga up outta there.
