97 Accord shifting hard
Hello guys I was wondering if anyone could help me figure out what is making my 97 automatic accord shift hard/pull. Also doesnt want to go in reverse sometimes. Would it be the tranny going bad or could it be something else?

Re: 97 Accord shifting hard
First thing I always do is check the transmission oil and replace it.
Is it shifting hard in all gears or just from 1-2nd and/or 2-3rd?
I had harsh shifts on my car from 1-2nd and 2-3rd, changed the transmission oil to original Honda ATF-Z1 and shifts became alot smoother. I not sure about the reverse gear problem you're having, might be a clutch problem and linked to the harsh shifts but then again I'm not a transmission specialist.

Re: 97 Accord shifting hard
Thanks for the advice. The color is the normal reddish color. Since I have been having this shifting problem a while now, I change the transmission fluid often.

Pull the shift solenoid off and clean it and replace the filter for it as well. The filter/gasket is a dealer only item.
