Icon2 97 Accord Drivers Window comes out of track

Dear Experts,

I have a 1996 Honda Accord, 4 door.

Recently, I had some drama. While on a road trip,
the driver's window rolled down. But would not roll up.

It was starting to rain, so I took the car to the dealer.
First, they manually pushed the window up.
And gave me a diagnosis and quote.

It was the switch for the windows in the driver's door.
So they fixed it.

BTW, turns out that you have to buy both the switch
and the plastic holder for this part now. The new switch
won't fit into the old plastic assembly. Another surprise.

It was really hot, so at my destination, I was always
driving around with the driver's window down.

When I left the city to return home, there was wind noise.
The window will roll up most of the way. But at the last
four inches or so, the window glass comes out of the track
(top rear corner, beside/behind the driver's head).
The window will go outside the rubber track, away from the driver.

If I stand outside, push the window switch, and push the window
into the car with my other hand while I roll it up, the window will seat
itself, and there will be no car noise.

I've looked at a few posts. Some say that the window
motor/regular assemby needs to be replaced.

So I went to the junkyard to disassemble a test car
and grab the part before making any mistakes on mine.

I loosened all the bolts to the regulator assembly.
Turns out that I could move the glass a little bit, and
tighten the bolts back up. Did the dealer techs
not align it correctly?

At the junkyard, another patron said that he'd had a similar
problem, and it turned out to be the window was binding
on the track inside the door. On the track closest to the
engine. He suggested buying an entire track, or a whole door
if I could. These cars are getting harder to find.

So, I wanted to ask the question.
Has anyone else had this symptom or experience?
What was the symptom, and the solution?

Thanks a lot!

I have the exact same issue. No solution though.

I had the same problem. I replaced the rubber gasket around the window and the problem stopped. Not very much can go wrong with the regulator and if it should be bad, they are really cheap at the pick-and-pull.

Just in case anyone else has this issue.

I removed the inner door panel, and opened up the driver's door.

I was able to adjust the window, by loosening the bolts,
and levering the assembly toward the track in the door frame.
It worked fine then.

Did not change the rubber track.
Although I did clean it with rubbing alcohol and a q-tip when I had
the door apart.

Later, I changed the window regulator to one made by Dorman.
The window goes up and down much easier now.

The passenger window, with the original OEM window regulator, will take
6 seconds to go from bottom to top.

The driver's window, with the Dorman window regulator, will take only
4 seconds to go from bottom to top. Much better.
