96 Accord Wagon low rpm when braking
Hey,
Recently I took my wagon to a shop for repair due to radiator boiling over and a leak in the AC low line.
After letting the guy look at it for a day and taking it back till he got the part, next day I was driving and at a light I stopped, and my rpm dropped and the engine shut off.
So I started it back up and it was fine till I was trying to leave a cvs parking lot, every time
I would shift, well more so braking, the idle would bog down and engine would shut off. So my friends towed me with their crv a distance to my house and then we added gas via gas cans, then ran the car.
After adding gas it seemed to run better. But when the issue happened, the car was at 1/4 a tank left. About 170miles since fill-up.
Usually my wagon can go 230miles pushing it on a full tank.
Today my car was at 140ish miles in and at a tiny under half tank according to the guage.
At lights when stopping with brake down, the rpm would drop close to shutting off the engine.
Will fill up tonight and hope all is well.
((Addition, wanted to add that the car would idle surge in the winter when first starting the car))
Anyway, have seen a few posts but I haven't found a solution to this issue.
Can anyone please help??
My wagon is a 1996 Honda Accord Wagon LX, 2.2L v4, auto transmission, about 155k miles on it.
Thanks!!!

It could be that the fuel tank is full of junk and is only recently kicking crap up, possibly choking the fuel pickup sock when it gets low.
Or the IACV may be slowly failing, you can also check that the iACV filter screen is not coked up and not allowing enough air bypass for the ECU to control the engine properly at idle and under load.

It's just weird that I took it to this mechanic and then the next day I have issues. Was getting me wondering if it is something they did to get me to come back to them to fix.

I was reading on this page about the IACV, since I'm having idle issues and came across a fact that might help your problem: The ECU receives all sorts of codes, which tell it to adjust the idle speed. These codes are load-type codes and one of them is a sensor for brake usage. (Brake light switch)
