Default 96 Accord LX: Oil Light FalsePositive||P0113 H-Air Intake

Got a bit of a weird problem with my 96 honda accord lx 4cyl non-vtech. First off is my current problem is that my Oil Light comes on at red lights after about 30+minutes of driving. Common sense applies to check your fluids and I do once every one week – three weeks, which I always make sure I have optimal fluid; in this case I do. In Drive the car tends to serge/hunt randomly at the point when the oil light appears but in Neutral it doesn’t serge/hunt as much and the car also doesn’t display the oil light as faster than it does in drive.

Now besides that, I ran my OBD and it came up with some trouble codes, besides the oxygen sense bank 1-2 I also have trouble code: P0113 High Air intake sensor- sensor 1 /Circulation High Input. Which from a diagram and research on P0113 states it was the Air Temperature on the back of the trollel body. I replaced the part but it still shows up on my OBD, I had thoughts that this bad sensor (which was really bad and needed to be replaced anyways) was the source of the problem but now I’m at a loss and having second thoughts. Could anyone help me out on possible solutions?

What color are the two wires to the IAT sensor?

Oil pressure switches do fail. IMHO this is one of those parts I would get from the dealer, I hate to throw parts at something but in this case I would pick up a new one from the dealer and see if that solves the oil light issue.

Had to pull back the sleeve but the wires are colored Red and Black, I did replace the oil pressure sensor a few months ago and the OBD isn't picking up any trouble codes about the oil pressure sensor being bad.

The OBD will not give any information about the oil pressure switch. You said you replaced it a while back, was it an OE or aftermarket unit? Again, I have seen way too many aftermarket ones act up, hence why I said it was one of those parts I'd get from the dealer.

Next, how long have you had the car, the issue been there and was there any work done to the car that led to the IAT issue?

Why do I ask that....well your wire colors don't match to anything I can find. Best/close as I can come is a BLK/YEL and RED connector would go to the evap purge solenoid valve...mounted to the firewall, kind of right/pass side of the car,

The IAT would have GRN/BLU and RED/YEL.

You say the IAT was "really bad".....was the end of it "burnt/melted?

Yes the IAT was burnt/melted at the tip, i've had the car about 4 1/2 years and this problem has been going on for about 2 weeks. As for work done towards the problem swapping the sensor was the only progress towards the issue. All my sensor's i've bought were through my local parts store.

Did you use a bunch of pipe sealant/teflon tape when installing new sensor? The sensor needs a good ground. You very well may have low oil pressure. Which can be a couple of things.

But if you are wanting to check it, youll need to get your hands on a barbed fitting the same size as the pressure sensor(1/8" npt i think) Then a piece of plastic or rubber tubing, which you will route up through the slats in teh hood. Attach this to a 0-60/100ish psi gauge...really whatever gauge you can get your hands on. Attach the tubing to the gauge.. Ensure you clamp both ends...then zip tie it to the wiper blade so you can see it while driving.

Then as youre driving watch teh gauge...it should go up and down as rpms go up and down. Should be around 10psi per 1000RPM. If it gets below i think its 2.5psi...youll get the light. If it does get low like this...i would pull the oil pan and look at the pick up tube...see if it is clogged up. Then go from there.

Again, just me but it sounds like there might be some connectors "switched" up.

Pull the new IAT sensor and see if it is "melted" again......if so time to figure out which connectors are switched up.
