95 accord v6 -occasional no start
I have had about 3 no start occurances in the last 6 months. It is always a cold start situation (in my garage - no sunlight). I checked for spark during one of these no starts and spark is strong. Engine cranks, starter engages, but something is missing. I am guessing it is fuel.
Turn key on, get the standard 2 seconds of fuel pump running, and then it clicks off. Initially, the car runs for approx, 1 second, then dies. Then it just cranks, and cranks....... and cranks..... with no hint of hitting. Cycle the key completely off, let it sit for a few minutes, cycle the key again( do this several times) and usually the car will start. After eventually starting, the car runs great.
I don't have a good way to check fuel pressure, I may need to buy a gage. Also, would a fuel injector "noid" light be a good addition to catch this failure.? I suspect the fuel is what is missing, due probably to a lack of injector pulses. Is there a failure mode with the main relay and/or ECU that would cause the ECU to be "fooled" and not produce injector pulses, but yet the ignition would spark just fine?'
Any/all opinions on this would be appreciated. I changed the ignition switch (electrical) about 2 years ago, so I guessing this could be ruled out. However, the car has 145K and is on the original PGM-FI main relay.
Should I just go ahead and change the main relay? By the way, where is it located on the 95 V6? Looked at several main relay writeups on this site and intenet, but was unable to find detail on the location of the relay in this car. Any info on this would be appreciated as well.
This is my wife's daily driver and she is starting to ride my a** on this. Car looks great and don't want her getting "new car fever" HELP !!!!
