Default 95 accord lx bad MPG?

I drive about 6 miles monday -friday to school and back. From the time i tank up to the time i hae half left i usually shift 2.5k rpm and ocassional 3k rpm when im towing my fat *** friend around.

When it gets under the half i tend to step on it from time to time.
last time i got 20.3 mpg
this time i got 21.5 mpg isnt it low?

thats normal for city driving , if u look at epa rating they put accord for like 20city 31 highway for automatic and for manual 21 and 32 or something like that i usually get around 21 to 25 city depends on conditions like slow traffic how many passengers etc.. and if u go for like short distances is prolly eats more gas then for longer duration.. car warm up, starting car more etc..

Try being a little easier on the throttle, no "jackrabbit starts" or trying to race anyone.

It will go up a little but honestly that's pretty good mileage for pure city driving.

I have a 95 EX station wagon and I get 27-28 MPG. I work as a courier and drive about 180 miles per day here in Atlanta. My Accord has 298,400 miles on it.

When is the last time you changed the plugs, air filter, etc. ? It doesn't sound like you are "hot *******" the car. What kind of gas are you using? I normally use Chevron. I've noticed that when I use an off brand, my fuel mileage will drop.

Good Luck

Gary

i changed the air filter, sparks, wires, cap, rotor about 5 k miles ago.
awell as tranny fluid drain and refill. i have done 3 oil changes since i got the car in November. About 2-3k each change.
I have run fuel system cleaners in the tank when i first got and and later used Marvel mystery oil.
I might add that i am using 10w-40 because my engien has a slight knock and this weight cures it.
