93 honda accord/alternator charging problem
Hi, i have a 93 accord lx model.
My problem started last week when with my belt screeching, i tightened the belt up it stopped, but then my lights where dim then my battery went dead, so i went and got another alternator. So i put it on thinking it fixed the problem no it didn't i had it checked after i replaced the alternator No charge they said the alternator was bad so i took the alternator back got another one i had it tested twice before i left the store. Now after i got it back on bam same problem not charging an the lights are dim. Now I've sat around and noticed if i start my car the lights get bright for a sec then they go back dim every time i do that. It seams like i'm getting a charge for a brief second then nothing. Now my thoughts on this could this be: a loose ground wire some where for the alternator or something got corrosion build up and its not on the battery its clean or something shorted out some where. Now i did notice went i was driving down the road a burning smell like rubber or a plastic.:thud: |
Re: 93 honda accord/alternator charging problem
I would start at the battery. Remove both positive and negative battery cables. Clean them and the battery posts REALLY good. See if that helps at all. Then have your battery load tested. Check all wires and spade lugs at the alternator(Both on the alternator and the wires attaching)

Re: 93 honda accord/alternator charging problem
Everything on the battery is new an replaced. I had the battery tested yesterday everything this fine is just not getting charge from the alternator. Is there any other wires that ground behind the motor for the alternator?

Re: 93 honda accord/alternator charging problem
Well, if everything is new like you said(I assume you mean you put on new ends)? I would start ohming out wires(Lok for corrosion), from battery, to battery. to and from alternator. Check all ends(Not visual, use a VOM to check it all)

Check to see if the 80a alt fuse in the engine box assembly has blown. Check for any stores codes. Check and clean up the ecu ground going to the throttle body.

Re: 93 honda accord/alternator charging problem
Alright i checked the 80A fuse it's good. Now checking and cleaning the ecu wires could that be my problem i haven't had a chance to do this today it's been raining all day??? And another thing my car does have any splash guards and there's been a bunch salt on the roads lately could this also play a big factor?

Re: 93 honda accord/alternator charging problem
With the car cold start it up and check voltage across the battery posts and see what the voltage looks like.
parts store alternators are a crap shoot. They may just be bad. The only way to ensure a good alternator is to go Denso. |
