Icon6 Tachometer erratic 2000 Honda Accord SE

2000 Honda Accord SE, 4 cylinder ULEV, auto, 162K miles

My tachometer jumps or bounces while I'm driving. I'll be driving and it will go to zero and stay there then I'll tap the cluster and it will jump to reading correctly again. All other gauges in cluster are working OK. Engine does not follow tach and is running fine, idle is normal around 700-800 RPM. I've researched online and in forums. My understanding is tach gets its signal from the distributor and specifically the Ignition Control Module (ICM) inside the distributor. I've read if the ICM is bad or going out I should be having other problems with engine, timing, etc. -- but I'm not a this point.

I'm guessing it's a bad tachometer in cluster or bad ICM. Is there something I'm missing here?

Any help here would be appreciated.

http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/...IPPON+SEIKI%29You need to replace the tach inside the housing. Get yourself a junkyard or from Craigslist. Open housing and replace the tach. Try not to touch the needle.

You'll need item 11.
