90 Accord Ignition Switch/Tumbler Problems
Sometimes I cannot get the key out of the ignition, when it happens I cannot turn the switch far enough to even start the engine, only far enough for the radio to come on. If I monkey around with the switch I can sometimes work it so I can get the key out when that happens it will then allow me to put the key back in and start it up.
The key is in good condition but it feels pretty rough (friction) sticking the key into the switch. Might it be a problem with the tumblers?
How do I replace the switch/tumblers on this model?

First question; Is it an aftermarket key?
there is a little plunger at the bottom of the tumbler unit that has to be pushed in by the key.
A $7 dealership made key might be worth a try.
To remove the tumbler unit take off the steering column shrouds, then use a 6mm to unbolt the electrical part of the switch. Don't short out the solder joints on the back.
Next get a little chisel and you need to get the Breakaway bolts out by tapping along the edge of the hump to get them backing out. Buy new ones at the dealer.
Then take the unit to a good locksmith.
If you have to buy a new unit at the dealer you can still have a locksmith set the tumblers to your key so there is still only one key needed.
