2001 auto tranny fluid & filter change
Hi , I'm looking for a little insight into changing tranny fluid & filter
on a 2001 Accord LX auto 4 cyl.
I've never done this service on a Honda .
Any insight would be appreciated .
Thanks

if u want to do a simple drain and fill. just locate the drain bolt on the side of the transmission, it should have a square hole where u put a 3/8" ratchet in to loosen it.
then you fill it through the dip stick hole i believe, unless on the 2001 accords they have a fill bolt too on top of the transmission.
I am not familar with the 98-02 4cyl autos, but i konw the v6 autos have a fill bolt on top.
and also there is no filter to replace so you dont have to worry about that.

hmmm thats pretty strange, perhaps they ordered you some kind of external inline filter?
i am like 99% positive it doesn't have a transmission filter, well not one thats serviceable anyway.
i think there is one thats all the way in there, which you would only replace during a rebuild. not routine maintance.
but good news, autozone workers arent exactly known for their intelligence so maybe it was a mix up,
if you wanna double check give a honda dealer part counter a call and they can verify for you.

Re: (Eddiebx)
use only oem fluid, honda auto trans are very sensitive about the juice
3 quart is enough for a drain and refill but it will take more if you want to get rid all the juice.(read: 3quart is good enough if you been keeping up the maintaince, a total flush will take 8-9quart)
there's no serviceable filter, the only filter is buried inside the transmission only during overhaul that you need to replace it.
there'a a 3/8 rachet square hole, there's the atf oil drain for all auto honda.
it's on the passenger side.

Re: 2001 auto tranny fluid & filter change (Bugs1066)
accord transmissions for the 5th and 6th gen do NOT HAVE a replacable filter. The Filter is internal to the transmission and cannot be replaced unless the unit is opened.
Also there is no pan on this transmission.
