2001 Accord- SRS light- how to read codes
My son told me the SRS light recently came on in his 2001 Accord. I also recently acquired a code scanner and was wondering:
Where do I find the OBD2 connection plug on this car?
Are there separate codes that would identify if the issue is airbags, seat belts, etc...?
I'm assuming my OBD2 code scanner can clear any codes that are triggering the SRS light (of the the code and the light will return if there is an actual problem that persists).

Yeah, I realized my OBD2 reader won't read SRS codes. I have a mechanic who will probably read the codes for me for no charge, but then I'll have to deal with getting it fixed.
I've read where some of the SRS/ seat belt components have a lifetime warranty from Honda. Anyone have experiences with getting these parts replaced by the dealer and what components are covered under the warranty?

Depends on the fault and the dealer you go to.
Many of these 6th gens seem to have an issue with the drivers seat belt latch. Many have been able to clean the latch and get it working again. Others just get a new one (~$60) and replace it.
Again, get the code(s) before doing anything - there are some threads that will show you how to get the codes with a small jumper wire on the OBD port.

Re: 2001 Accord- SRS light- how to read codes
Thank you. I've got a mechanic that will likely pull the codes for free so we'll be taking it to him tomorrow.
I'm hoping to do any repairs myself. It looks like the error codes are pretty specific so hopefully they'll narrow the issue down pretty well so we don't go replacing something that doesn't need to be replaced.
Also the car is due for VA state inspection and I assume this will fail it, so we don't have a lot of time to work with either.

Some scan tools will not read Honda SRS codes, so it will depend on the tool(s) your mechanic has - the jumper wire is another option.
Not sure of the inspection laws in VA but yes many states will fail a car if the SRS light is on.
I only posted about the drivers latch as it seems to be the most common failure in the 6th gen's.......get the code and go from there, good luck.

My son took it over to our mechanic today and thankfully it was only a loose plug somewhere. Problem fixed at $0 cost (I like those endings- having spent way too much fixing our other cars this year).
