2001 accord

this is my first time on this site and the first import iv ever thought of getting i have a 76 camaro that im thinking of trading for a 2001 accord with a 2.3 vtec for the better mpg it has 400,000 miles it's just had a tune up and timing belt changed Ive never had a car with this many miles on it every one i have asked has said that Honda's go forever with good maintenance but i don't know much about Honda's i just need to know if this is true and if this is a good trade

thanks for any input

Automatic?

No way.

5 speed with regular interval fluid changes and maintenance (with records!)

Maybe.

400k miles is a shit ton no matter how you tally it up. Unless you're only paying <$1000 I would pass on it.

Just do a search on those automatics, they are not something you want. While there is a good change it's probably ok, several members have had absolute horror stories involving those transmissions. Mostly on the V6 model, but the 4cyl is not completely exempt.

EXTREMELY important for a car like this with so many miles!

As TheMuffinMan said, that's a lot of miles for any car, and if you can't be told how it was taken care of it could be a ticking time bomb.

How does this thing look?

it looks good just has some front bumper damage but i was planing on putting on a body kit runs good he drives it 1 1/2 hr one way every time he brings it to my house me and my dad think if it was going to have the transmission problems it has all ready happened with that many miles

it's a good trade 400K is a lot but you can get another 100K plus easily out of it

Re: 2001 accord

I've got a 95 EX with 358K + miles and the original auto trans, knocking on wood right now. Yes I've been changing the trans fluid every 40K since it hit ~220K but still going strong. Planning a drain and fill in the next couple of weeks.

Re: 2001 accord

On the transmission, not all transmissions in that generation* failed, just more than normal. Especially in the V6 models, but if yours has made it 400,000 miles, I don't think the transmission will be the next thing to fail. And even if it does you can do an automatic to manual transmission swap for around $1,500 (much cheaper than putting a rebuilt automatic transmission in).

I recommend doing the swap, if nothing else you will be in a safer car with the airbags and less temptation to drive fast.

The car weighted alot, even with 45-50 more hp it's still lacks the torque that it needs badly. It's kind of sucks to spend 3g and still sporting the "swapped and still slow" monkey in your back.In the car passenger airbag worked, I want to erase the crash from the SRS unit. I bought Honda Airbag Reseter for TMS320 but it does not work directly on the car. Will try to connect reseter directly to the unit.

Get it and I dont know where u live but u can find a used engine and if needed the tranny for under G. The only problem is if u dont have peers to help with doing the swap.
