2000 accord brake job
 

I'm no newb to hondas, but I have never worked on my fiances accord. The factory 100k warranty just expired and I have to do a brake job. I already purchased the pads and rotors, just looking for some info.
Are the rotors pressed on? Any advice or tips would be appreciated

Not sure, but I'm assuming the front rotors are pressed in. Not sure if Honda went with a different setup in the newer accords.

they did go with a different setup. rotor over hub. it's like the civics always have been.

ogsmakdade: it's a pretty straight forward job.

a few tips- it's well worth it to get an impact driver like this...

for removing the rotors. also the rear caliper pistons need to be reset by twisting CW as you press. there is a special tool for this, although i've gotten away with using a large prypar like a screwdriver. not always easy that way :crook:.

there's nothing special really about brakes on this model. if you're familiar with brake jobs you'll have no trouble. :thumbup:

I wish my CD5 was that setup. LOL. Is there a way to convert to newer setup?

yes. i believe there are several how-to's floating around. check the Accord FAQ page. from what i remember they guy's are using mostly CL parts, but i think CG Accord parts work as well.

I was told that the Acura CL had the same setup as the Accords. They are pressed on also?

rotors are never pressed on. 90-97 Accords have the hub pressed over the rotor. the hub has to be pressed out to replace the rotor. the newer models have the hub behind the rotor so the rotor can simply be removed by undoing the two retaining bolts.

the process was the same as doing a brake job on my prelude. I replaced all four disks with brembo blanks, and used hawk hps pads. Hopefully my girl is happy with the setup.
I should have just jacked the car up and found out for myself but I was pressed for time.

Always do yourself a favor and leave the two screws off. They don't serve a real purpose.

pretty much split all the way around, it didn't come apart when I took it off though. there was about an inch and a half that wasn't cracked, holding it together.
I always install brand new ones when I did the brakes on my lude. I installed them on all wheels accept the one with the split rotor on the accord. They wouldn't come loose, so I had to drill them out.

Thanks for the link. I am considering the conversion since I am on a smaller budget and would be able to service myself.

That's why I leave them off.

However, I always wonder if maybe if you grease them good with brake grease before putting them on would guarantee them coming off later. Also, one thing I have also thought about is that perhaps they might help keep the rotor on straight as it's spinning real fast at high speeds even though the brake pads do keep it on straight. Just a little venting here. :)

the two small bolts won't keep things aligned any better than the clamping force of the wheel/lugs. and as for maintaning concentricity/radial runout, that's the purpose of the rotor pilot OD on the hub.

on the other hand though there's no shifting around of the rotor when the wheels are rotated if the bolts are used. they keep everything tidy and secure. :)

What type of grease do you folks use for slider pins and back of shims? Does the CRC RED ANTI SQUEAK stuff last?

You talking about the spray stuff ? I use that on the back of my pads. I spray, let it dry, spray, let it dry until I have a few coats of it.

If you're talking about grease, you need high temp brake grease since cv axle grease will burn off faster.

Nice job. What kind of difference did the brembo's and ceramic pads make? Bet it was significant.
