2000 Accord 4cyl P1381

Hello, I am new to this forum and I need some help. I have seen some other threads on this DTC but not any that had the exact symptoms with a resolution. Car had the P1381 code and would hesitate at times. I checked the distributor. There was oil coming from inside of housing so I purchased a new one (OEM). The code reappeared as soon as I drove the car out of the garage on the first test drive. The engine will not rev over 3000 rpm in neutral or in gear. Its like a rev limiter. Runs great up to 3K rpms. Any info would be greatly appreciated. I have checked all connectors. The problem occurs every time at 3K rpms though.
Thanks!

If you figured out the problem, please let me know. I have the exact same problem with a 2001 Accord 4 cyl, revs top out at 3000 RPM, code P1381, replaced whole distributor and made NO difference.

THANKS!

I did the exact same thing... Didn't work. From what I have read online it most likely the alternator diodes at fault. I plan to change that next. My code only pops up once in a while. I bought a scangauge II which allows me to read on reset codes while I am driving. Here are some of the links I found...

It did turn out to be the alternator diodes. The way to tell is to unplug the connector (4-prong) to the alternator and see if the misfiring stops. It did, and then I took the alternator to a shop and they said there was a bad lead in it, fixed it, and all is fine.

^^just to add to that.....I had a similar problem a few weeks ago and when that code is set the rev limit is 3,000rpms... So the engine wont go beyond that it will prob keep bouncing off of it.

Anyway, with mine you could hear the alternator whine until it was unplugged, then it would stop....But the code was still set and the engine still was limited to 3,000 rpms even though the problem was gone (alt unplugged).

Its not till I unhooked the battery to clear the codes then drove it without the alternator plugged did it stop doing that. I plugged it back in after a drive and the code came back immediately. I got a new alt. now and have no problems.
