98 accord cooling issue
So my gf has a 98 accord lx it's got a problem with running hot. Replaced water pump, tensioner, thermostat, and cooling sensor.. and the car is still running hot. There is no antifreeze in the oil so I am betting the head gasket is good but can't Leo it from running hot . Any ideas? Already flushed radiator too. Tomorrow I'll flush engine

Re: 98 accord cooling issue
I dont know what you mean by the cooling sensor. I would check to see if the sensor which detects the temperature is working. Is the coolant actually too hot or is the guage giving you a false reading? Thats what I would check first

Re: 98 accord cooling issue
coolant is definatly too hot it's overheating and the fans work with the a.c. on but don't under normal driving conditions with the a.c. off. The coolant sensor is the sensor behind the oil sending unit on the head. The head I not cracked or have a blown head gasket and both fans do work with ac running . I thought it was a false reading too until I noticed the radiator smoking. I did a flush on it to check for blockages and water came out good like it was supposed to. New thermostat too.. I bought a new water pump and this evening will put that on and run it to see what happens

WATER PUMP - SENSOR for 1998 Honda ACCORD SEDAN part 15
it's really important to get this from Honda and be sure to crack open the bleeder bolt at part 12 a quarter of a turn when refilling to allow the air to purge out of it, then close it and continue filling the radiator

Re: 98 accord cooling issue
Thats gotta be your actual problem than. You need to fix it so it runs without ac, I have no idea why it would only run with the ac on. Its possible the coolant temp sensor is the reason but hopefully someone who knows will tell you why. I'd run the ac on until you fix it

Re: 98 accord cooling issue
If the water pump sensor doesn't fix it and one of the fans is still not working. Check the relays and the fuses for the fans. And, if you know how to work with electricity, you can take power directly from the battery to the connector for each fan and see if they run with power directly from the battery. I have a 2007 Accord and one of the fans stopped working recently and I took power directly from the battery and it still didn't run, and I had to replace both fans because they come together for my car. It is a job you can do yourself. I did anyway. Also, you can watch some Scotty Kilmer YouTube video "How to fix an overheating car" and "Changing a broken cooling fan yourself" The radiator may just be corroded internally and flushing it won't fix that. You just have to replace them. You can get a new radiator for around $100 at Carparts.com
