1999 Honda Accord LX - All Dash lights came one, now won't start
Last night while driving about 45 mph I noticed all the dash lights had come on, open door warning lights, trunk open warning light, etc. My first thought was the engine had died on me so I shifted the gear to N and turned the ignition to the off position, then back to the on position while coasting. Nothing changed.
I was able to accelerate, although somewhat roughly, and brake, although I don't recall if my braking was rougher. The steering was definitely rougher as if the power steering had went out. I made it to my destination and was able to safely park.
After turning the engine off, it would not start again. It cranks and cranks as if it wants to start but never quite makes it. I've noticed a faint gas smell in the past when turning off the engine, but for whatever reason never did anything to address it. I replaced the starter 4 months ago.
I initially thought maybe this was a timing belt issue, but in the past I recall the engine shutting down immediately when the timing belt broke. Now I am thinking perhaps it is a fuel issue, and yes there is plenty of gas in the tank, lol. Any insight to my issue would be greatly appreciated.

If all of the dash lights came on, and the power steering was out, then it sounds like your motor did shut off. check your timing belt.

V6?
Delphi alt are crap, repalce it with one from a 7th gen accord or CL/TL after you verify the problem. A dead alt will cause car to run on battery and cause the problem you are having....

i would have to agree with jweller the post is stating all the lights came on and would not restart that will happen if the motor dies while driving. if the alternator fail's while driving the lights will go off as their is not voltage from a drained battery.

if the alt was bad the car would not run unless the battery has a good charge and will only run until the battery voltage has gone below 11.9 volts or so,plus the car will start and run if it jumped but the poster has yet to provide us with any new details yet.

Thanks for all your replies. I am thinking it will be a fuel issue after all. When I got home last night I tried to start the car and it nearly started a couple of times, acting as if it was out of gas. I will get it to a garage, hopefully tonight, to see what diagnosis they get and hope they get it right the first time.

Well it turns out the timing belt was the issue. I've had it replaced and all is well now.
