1999 Honda Accord EX-V6 multiple problems.

Hi,
I have a few questions for this particular vehicle which my Fiancée and I were given.

The car is a 1999 Honda accord ex v6 obviously, with about 70,000 miles on it. I was in Arizona and the previous owner took very good care of the maintenance.

However there are two things that I noticed about the car.
1. When approaching 100 miles per hour I am not presented with the pickup power which I have while lets say going from 0 - 60 miles per hour. I literally have to floor the petal to get good pickup at that speed. Is this a normal issue while traveling at that speed with the V-6?
2. While driving from 0 - 85 there are no issues but once I hit 85 there is a windy sound coming from above the drivers side door and also I here a wobble coming from the wheels. For the wobbling sound is this just an alignment or tire balancing issue? For the windy sound is this a broken seal above the door?

Thanks,
:rb

With the power issue I would say at that speed you have to either floor it enough to get it to downshift or you will definitely have to wait for the speed considering you are in overdrive. Seriously, it takes a lot of power to overcome the wind resistance at that speed, you don't have a Viper.

Also, about the wind noise at 85 I think that would be totally expected. The body is not tuned to perfectly break the wind at a speed like that. Maybe you should get an Insight which has a much lower drag coefficient. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emsmilep.gif

WHAT????? https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emthdown.gif

1. Physics: accel. = change in velocity / change in time
2. Every car on the planet has higher wind noise at higher speed. Every wheel on every car on the planet isn't perfectly balance. Every brake rotor on every car on the planet isn't perfectly true (for vibration under braking). Higher speeds usually make slight vibrations worse.

I understand, maybe I am not being clear on the wind issue. It only happens above the driver side door. It does not happen on the passenger side.

Thanks for the insight on the downshifting. The car just seems to become sluggish as far as acceleration at those speeds. The spedometer goes to 160 so I would assume enough power to get up to 120 - 130 fairly quickly thats all. Maybe I need better intake? What mod would help me get a better engine response at 100 mph?

Buy a C6 Z06! https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

NITROUS.......S/C........Turbo........... or a C6 Z06 would get you there and beyond MUCH faster! (or to be perfectly honest, a 2002 Camaro SS with intake/exhaust/lt's/cam/125-shot nitrous - not that I'm parital or anything, but it's a proven rip-your-head-off formula)

Other than that, nothing. When you want "response" at 100+mph, you're talking about big horsepower increases.

Oh, and just because the speedometer goes up to 160.... doesn't mean that the car will come even close to 160. I'd guess about 130 or so top speed for a new Accord V6. That's just a guess though. Ex: C5 Vettes have 200mph speedos. Top speed on a stock C5 Coupe was about 175mph. Just another Vette tidbit: new C6 Z06 hit 195mph on a test. ALMOST 200!
